What we collect
We collect the following personal data through this website:
- •Wedding planning preferences (couple form): first name, email address, wedding date, county or region, estimated guest count, budget range, and wedding style or cultural/religious background. Wedding style information may include religious beliefs, racial or ethnic origin, or sexual orientation. You select this from a predefined list at the point of collection; it is never inferred or assumed by WedCompare. This information is Special Category data under Article 9 UK GDPR.
- •Cost calculator: email address, estimated guest count, region, and selected vendor categories.
- •Enquiries: couple name, email address, phone number, wedding date, estimated guest count, region, and any free-text message you include.
- •Vendor listing applications: business name, category, county, website URL, starting price, contact email, phone number (if provided), pricing transparency status, and cultural specialisms.
Couple data (planning preferences, calculator estimates, and enquiries) includes personal contact details and is treated as more sensitive than vendor business data, which is submitted for the purpose of public display.
How we use it
- •Wedding planning preferences (couple form): to notify you when vendors matching your wedding style and location go live on the platform, and to help match you with relevant vendors once available.
- •Calculator leads: to deliver the cost estimate you requested and, where you have opted in, to send relevant updates about WedCompare.
- •Enquiry data: to route your enquiry to the vendors you selected and to enable those vendors to respond to you directly.
- •Vendor listing data: to review your listing application, contact you about your submission, and display your business information publicly on the platform once approved.
Legal basis
- •Couple wedding planning preferences — contact details, wedding date, location, budget (Article 6): processed on legitimate interest — to notify you of relevant vendor availability in line with the purpose for which you submitted the form.
- •Couple wedding style and background — religious beliefs, racial or ethnic origin, or sexual orientation (Article 9 UK GDPR Special Category data): processed on explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a) UK GDPR. You voluntarily select this information from a disclosed list, and you are informed of this Privacy Policy at the point of submitting your details.
- •Vendor listing submissions: processed on the basis of consent — you submit your business information voluntarily for the purpose of public display on the platform.
- •Cost calculator results: processed on legitimate interest — we use your email address to deliver the estimate you requested. This processing is necessary to fulfil the service you asked for and does not require a separate consent.
- •Marketing emails (calculator opt-in): processed on consent — we only send marketing communications where you have ticked the opt-in checkbox. You may withdraw this consent at any time by emailing hello@wedcompare.co.uk.
How long we keep it
We apply the following retention periods:
- •Couple wedding planning preferences: retained for 24 months from the date of signup, then automatically deleted.
- •Calculator leads: retained for 12 months from submission, then automatically deleted.
- •Enquiries: retained for 24 months from submission, then automatically deleted.
- •Rejected vendor applications: retained for 6 months from the date of rejection. We will send a reminder email approximately 30 days before deletion. After 6 months the record is automatically and permanently deleted.
- •Active or approved vendor listings: retained for as long as your listing is active. We will delete your data within 30 days of a written account closure request.
To request deletion of your data at any time — for any of the above data types — email hello@wedcompare.co.uk. All deletion requests are actioned within 30 days.
Sharing your data
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Approved vendor listing data is displayed publicly on WedCompare — this is the purpose for which it is submitted. We use the following sub-processors to operate the platform:
- •Resend (Sinch AB): email delivery — processes recipient names, email addresses, and message content.
- •Emergent (platform hosting): database and application hosting — stores all personal data collected through this website.
- •Stripe Inc.: payment processing — processes vendor billing information only; does not receive couple or enquiry data.
- •Cloudflare Inc.: CDN and traffic routing — all traffic to wedcompare.co.uk passes through Cloudflare's network, including form submissions.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the following rights:
- •Right of access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- •Right to rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- •Right to erasure: ask us to delete your personal data (subject to applicable retention obligations).
- •Right to data portability: request your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- •Right to object: object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interest.
- •Right to restrict processing: ask us to pause processing while a complaint or correction request is resolved.
- •Right to withdraw consent: where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
- •Right to complain: you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been mishandled.
