We believe in plain English. This policy explains exactly what we store on your device, why, and how to control it — no legal jargon.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. This policy also covers similar technologies such as localStorage (browser storage), which we use to store non-sensitive session hints such as your vendor identifier.
These are required for the site to function and cannot be disabled. They include: your login session token if you are a vendor or admin (stored in a secure httpOnly cookie, inaccessible to JavaScript, cleared when you log out), a non-sensitive vendor identifier stored in localStorage as a session hint, and your shortlist and comparison selections during your browsing session (stored in localStorage, cleared when you clear your browser data). These do not track you across other websites.
Analytics cookies help us understand how couples and vendors use WedCompare — for example, which search filters are most used, or which pages are visited most. This data is aggregated and anonymous. Analytics cookies are not currently active on WedCompare and will only be set once you have given consent via our cookie banner. If and when we introduce analytics (e.g. Google Analytics), this policy will be updated before they are activated.
Marketing or advertising cookies are used to deliver targeted advertising and track campaign effectiveness. WedCompare does not currently use any marketing pixels or advertising networks. If this changes, we will update this policy and request your consent before setting any marketing cookies.
When you first visit WedCompare, our cookie banner allows you to: Accept all cookies (including analytics and marketing when active), Reject non-essential cookies (only strictly necessary cookies will be used), or Manage preferences individually. Your choice is saved in your browser. To change your preferences at any time, clear your browser storage for wedcompare.co.uk, or email us at hello@wedcompare.co.uk and we will provide instructions for your browser.
Strictly necessary cookies: vendor and admin session tokens are stored in httpOnly cookies and expire after 7 days (vendor) or 24 hours (admin); they are deleted server-side when you log out. A non-sensitive vendor identifier stored in localStorage is also cleared on logout. Shortlist and compare selections persist in localStorage until you clear your browser data. Your cookie consent preference is stored for 12 months, after which we will ask again.
WedCompare does not currently embed third-party widgets, social media plugins, or advertising networks that would set cookies. If this changes, the relevant third parties and their cookie policies will be listed here.
This cookie policy is written in compliance with the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Under PECR, we must obtain your informed consent before setting non-essential cookies. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt.
